17. UKIP Could Save Britain - But First It Needs a Coherent Economic Policy
Why does the monumentally tedious soap-dodging pseud Russell Brand still sell so many books? Why is Ed Miliband, a man with the charisma of used dental floss and the intellectual nuance of Hugo Chavez, still seriously in the running to become Britain's next Prime Minister? And why is Patrick O'Flynn, the economics spokesman for Britain's most libertarian mainstream party UKIP, flirting with the kind of wealth taxes and turnover taxes you'd more usually associate with the Greens or the Socialist Workers' Party?

20. EXCLUSIVE: Labour Press Officer Speaks out About Defection to UKIP
A little while ago, I took a giant step forward and joined UKIP: the ‘people’s army’. Was I right? There are now around forty thousand of us members. But my own journey was a little different. For a small part of my professional career, a decade ago, I’d served as a Labour Party Press Officer working closely on a daily routine with Cabinet ministers and ambitious special advisers, including Ed Balls and Ed and David Miliband.I led the media operation across key Labour marginals in the East of England – Thurrock, Basildon, Harlow, Waveney and Great Yarmouth: places now deserting Labour for UKIP - during the build-up to Tony Blair’s historic Third Term victory.

22. Conservatives will need to team up with Ukip to win election, says Farage - Telegraph
The Conservatives will need to team up with Ukip and offer a referendum on Europe if they want to win the next election, Nigel Farage has said.Nigel Farage, the Ukip leader, suggested he could stop his candidates running as MPs against some Conservatives if David Cameron promised a poll on whether Britain stays in the EU.He said he was open to doing a deal with any party but would need a promise "written in blood" as Mr Cameron previously broke his word on having a referendum on Europe.Speaking ahead of the party's annual conference, Mr Farage said he would also want to negotiate representation for Ukip in Parliament.

23. UKIP sets the agenda, ...and drives the government re-shuffle | Roger Helmer MEP
Perhaps the most striking feature of David Cameron’s extensive reshuffle is that is largely a defensive response to UKIP. We are setting the agenda. We are making the weather. The three main themes of the reshuffle were:Presenting a more eurosceptic facade: Philip Hammond, described as “a vociferous eurosceptic”, becomes Foreign Secretary, spun as “The most openly sceptic Foreign Secretary in decades”. Michael Fallon goes to Defence. He too has a eurosceptic reputation – though it’s difficult to see how he’ll bring that to bear in the defence rôle. Priti Patel becomes Secretary to the Treasury, and is a lady of robust opinions. On the other hand the nomination of Lord “Who’s He?” Hill as EU Commissioner raised some eyebrows – and got Jean-Claude Juncker googling to find out who he was.

24. Polls, polls, polls
It’s the voters turn to say what they think. In France it looks as if an other incumbent who has presided over the Euro crisis, another supporter of Euro austerity, is about to lose office. Latest polls shows Mr Sarkozy trailing Mr Hollande by between 6% and 11%. If Mr Hollande wins, expect rapid moves to bring him on board for the austerity treaty of late last year, sweetened by some kind 0f Growth package to be agreed with Germany and the Commission. Do not expect a radical change in the EU’s approach to the Euro.In Greece the two larger parties of past elections and the last Parliament saw much lower poll ratings in recent months. Pasok, the current ruling party, saw its rating slump from 38% in January 2011, to around 14% in the last permitted polls. New Democracy has had a smaller fall, from 30% to 23%. They do not allow polls close to the election.

25. If we agreed a pact with UKIP, we would own their pain - and their problems The Tory Diary
A UKIP-related story has made a splash this morning. Here's another that can easily be imagined on the front page of the Guardian or the Independent, before being highlighted the whole day long on the BBC, from Today to Newsnight. Maggie Chapman, a UKIP election agent, has tweeted what supporters might call light-hearted observations, and opponents - plus a very large number of people who are neither - would call racist jokes. "EastEnders is just so unrealistic," one of them reads. "A Paki family planning to actually go home." There are more, including one playing on the verbal similarity beween Shiite - as in Shiite Muslims - and the swear word for excrement. My point is not that UKIP is a racist party. Indeed, the opposite is true: UKIP is not a racist party.

26. Ukip are not closet racists – but we’ve had enough - Telegraph
The adoption case in Rotherham has become a wake-up call from Ukip to Westminster. For those of us in Ukip, the tidal wave of interest in the party over the past few days has been unprecedented. What lies behind it is, however, no surprise to us. It might be a surprise to the political and media establishment that, owing to the appalling situation in Rotherham, where a family was stripped of its foster children because of the blind prejudice of the local social services, they have had to come to terms with the truth. Ukip is an established and significant part of modern political debate. We have long said that Ukip is neither on the Left nor on the Right, but at the centre of public debate – rather than at the centre of the discourse that exists in the Westminster bubble. If you spend time travelling the country, as I do, speaking at public meetings where the door is open to all, not just party apparatchiks, then you can gauge the mood and opinions out there. And they differ wildly from the received opinion of College Green.Out there in the pubs, coffee mornings and, yes, even the golf clubs of Britain, the policy platform that we are presenting is entirely uncontroversial.

28. Local elections 2012: By linking UKIP to the BNP, Baroness Warsi is insulting voters she should...
As I settled down to watch the BBC coverage of the election results, I groaned when I saw that Baroness Warsi had been deployed to put a gloss on the good kicking the voters had given the Tories. But, however low my expectations, nothing prepared me for the quite disgraceful, cynical and plain stupid attempt she made to try to link the UK Independence Party with the BNP.it's bad enough that the Chairman of the Conservative Party doesn't know the difference between 'less' and 'fewer', but her ignorance of basic grammar - unsurprising in the representative of a party opposed to grammar schools - is trifling compared to the sheer wrongheadedness of her attempt to smear the disillusioned natural conservative supporters who had deserted her party to put their cross by UKIP candidates.

29. Husband and wife's foster children from ethnic minorities 'taken away because couple joined UKIP | Daily Mail
A married couple claimed yesterday they had their foster children taken away from them for being members of Ukip.Social workers told the couple, who were caring for three children from ethnic minorities, that the party had ‘racist’ policies and that their membership of it made them unsuitable carers, it was reported last night. The foster parents, who have been caring for children for nearly seven years and had been described as ‘exemplary’, said they were left feeling ‘stigmatised and slandered’.The three latest children, a baby girl, boy and an older girl from a troubled family, came to them in September on an emergency placement. But just eight weeks later, two staff from the Labour-run Rotherham council – the nearest to their village home in South Yorkshire – arrived and announced the local safeguarding children team had been told they were Ukip members in an anonymous tip.

31. People are feeling the squeeze | John Redwood's Diary
Out on the doorsteps the voices of voters can be heard complaining of just how much money government takes from them in differing ways. There are many complaints about public sector car park charges, the Congestion Charge in London, the Council Tax, taxi licence charges, planning fees, Stamp duties, Child Benefit withdrawal, tax credit changes, higher National Insurance, rising postage stamp prices, the failure to increase the Age Allowance for pensioners, the charity tax allowance changes: I have even had a strong complaint about ice cream vendor licence charges. From public sector workers come worries about their pension contribution increases and the worsening of the terms of their pension plans. The doorsteps are reflecting the growing feeling I have that we have reached tax saturation point.
