65. Can innovation transform the public sector?
Many parts of the private sector are being changed dramatically by digital technology. If you want to buy a house you can now visit a range of properties on line and see their floor plans and their inside and outside appearance from your home computer. If you want to buy any good or service you can google it and see a list of competing offers, usually with prices. You can order on line from your armchair. If you want to find a new job there are electronic jobs boards with choices of openings on offer. You can bank online, insure your car on line, undertake a study course on line. The opportunities are endless. The role and nature of the estate agent, the insurance broker, the bank clerk and the employment agency have altered substantially.

HALIFAX, Nova Scotia – A biracial woman has won her case against her former employer – the Black Educators Association – after human rights officials deemed she had been bullied by co-workers for being “not really black enough” to do her job.Rachel Brothers was hired by the Black Educators Association in 2006 and almost immediately came under fire from subordinate Catherine Collier who, according to the Nova Scotia Human Rights Commission, made it clear she thought Brothers was too young and too light-skinned to represent the race-based organization to the community, The Chronicle Herald reports.

71. Comment | Conservative Home
Gabriel H. Sahlgren was a Visiting Research Fellow at the Institute of Economic Affairs and is the author of Schooling for Money: Swedish Education Reform and the Role of the Profit Motive. In a fresh blow to the coalition’s free school programme, Nick Clegg has pledged that for-profit schools shall remain banned. This is unfortunate and does not make sense. By displaying continuing hostility towards profit-making schools, his ideological convictions are at odds with his progressive goals: without the profit motive, the prospect of a broad-based free school revolution - with the potential of increasing social mobility and improving educational standards for all - looks grim.

73. Why can't the Conservatives all be like Michael Gove? – Telegraph Blogs
Gove: truly we should worship and adore his mighty wondrousness (pic PA)."We're ready to walk out on Europe," Michael Gove has apparently been telling friends. And if there were to be any referendum on the subject he'd vote out.In any sane world this wouldn't be a story. Or only a story along the lines of "Fried eggs don't half go well with bacon," says Education Secretary. Or "dark sky at night, light sky in the morning" observes Gove. The reason it is a story is that we're so unused to hearing any member of our useless government say anything remotely in tune with what the electorate actually feels. Here is Gove saying what most of us have been thinking for years. And being thoroughly, deservedly applauded for it.

74. 'Lefty, hippy types won't be working for me very long': Ofsted boss vows to root out 'trendy' teaching methods in School inspection overhaul
The boss of Ofsted has vowed to get rid of education inspectors who back 'trendy child-centred' teaching methods in light of warnings that such methods damage schoolchildren.Sir Michael Wilshaw denied the schools watchdog was full of 'Lefty, hippy types' but said those who backed those methods 'wouldn't be working for me for very long'.The idealogy was popular in the Sixties and Seventies and saw children left to work along for long periods of time with little help from teachers - although they were championed at the time for allowing youngsters to work independently. He made the comments on Radio 4's Today programme yesterday as he revealed full routine inspections of the majority of England's schools are to be ditched in a major overhaul of the system.

76. One Laws for Them - Guy Fawkes' blog
David Laws may be a great political talent, may be a decent man and may have had his sex life unfairly revealed to the world. Guido doesn’t dispute his merits. Nevertheless, none of this trumps the fact that he took taxpayers’ money to pay his boyfriend’s rent on the quiet.Mark Pack and Iain Dale wail that it is so unfair and it will drive good people out of politics. Michael Gove is to herald an end to a quarter of a century of ‘dumbed-down’ exams this week when he abolishes GCSEs and brings back a tough new O-level style system. The Education Secretary will announce the new exams on Tuesday in a joint press conference with Liberal Democrat Deputy Prime Minister Nick Clegg after a furious behind-the-scenes row between the two men.Mr Clegg has forced Mr Gove to delay the new system until September 2015, which means Labour could scrap it if they win the next Election, due in May 2015.

79. American economic strengths we could copy | John Redwood's Diary
Yesterday I argued that the US was not growing faster than the UK because it was enjoying a larger fiscal stimulus. Most of you agreed, but some were extremely sceptical of the quality and sustainability of US growth. Today I wish to look at the factors that are assisting the US growth rate. I understand that there is still too much unemployment in the USA, and that some people’s living standards have been badly squeezed. However, the official figures drawn up under international public sector accounting conventions do show faster growth in the USA last year and this, than in troubled Europe. Some have rightly observed that the USA now has very cheap energy in the form of low priced gas, thanks to its enthusiastic embrace of shale gas. Mr Obama was dismissive of Sarah Palin’s “Drill baby, drill” remark when asked about energy policy, yet his administration seems to be adopting it as a practical means of cutting energy bills and providing a big stimulus to industry. The Uk needs to pursue cheaper energy policies, as I have often argued here.

80. *GRAPHIC* Islamic State (ISIS) behead children and women after stripping them naked | Pamela...
Here is a must-read piece from Satya D, a prominent Hindu thinker and activist:From the advent of Islam, it is the brutality that was used to conquer. Will Durant and other authors have translated Arabs own memoirs on how the Islamic invaders have destroyed cultures and swathes of land with utmost brutality and inhumanity with mountains of Kafir’s heads and rivers of blood. Durant quotes how a Sultan of Delhi becomes restless if he does not see mountains of Kafir’s heads every day morning. Steven Knapp quotes Arab memoirs of literally rivers of blood and the number of men and women sold in Arab markets as slaves (women as sex slaves).
