33. Boris Johnson poised to announce return to Parliament | Mail Online
Boris Johnson is to announce he will stand for Parliament at next year’s election – to avoid speculation on his future overshadowing the Tory campaign.Friends of the London Mayor say he accepts he must make his intentions to return to national politics known well before the Conservative conference in October or risk becoming a distraction at the party’s last major event before the general election next May.

34. 'I could never shaft my own brother like Ed Miliband': Boris Johnson attacks 'leftie' Labour leader, and praises his younger brother Jo Johnson as a "brilliant future prime minister"
The Mayor of London attacked the "Leftie" Labour leader on a trip to Australia, where he kissed a crocodile, and said Ed had won the 2010 battle because to him family ties are "trivial".

35. Mansion tax: Labour shows its true colours with this spiteful tax on homes - Telegraph
If the two Eds get their way, an Englishman’s home will not be a castle, but a leaky ruin.At last we can see exactly what kind of a Labour leader Ed Miliband proposes to be – and he is taking his party right back to the politics of envy and nihilistic class war that kept them out of office for a generation. The proposal for a new tax on people’s homes is ill-thought-out, unjust and un-British.The proposed tax is unfair on those who may be asset-rich – the elderly widow springs to mind – but whose income is low. If Labour were to pursue the policy announced last week, and set the threshold at £2 million, the result would be bizarre – from discontinued improvements to deliberate vandalism: anything to help the home owner limbo dance under the danger area. It is peculiar to try to raise money for the state by taxing this one particular form of wealth, and in this one particular way. As for Labour, they have shown their true colours. The Blairites in the party must be watching with incredulity and despair. Never mind the individual injustices – the message of the Miliband policy is that Labour is once again hostile to one of the deepest instincts of the British people: to show the energy, enterprise and ambition to want to improve your own home and to raise its value. I cannot believe Miliband will pursue this policy through to the election. If he does, he will have signed his political death warrant.

36. David Cameron was destroyed by Michael Gove's stunning ruthlessness. Now it has destroyed Boris Johnson too
First things first: when any senior politician says they don't want to be prime minister, don't believe them. They all want it and they all lie about it. Never forget that. Michael Gove said time and time again that he didn't want the job.Indeed, he went further than most politicians do when they're asked about their ambitions to No 10: he said, more than once that he wasn't up to it, that he lacked the competence and capability to lead the country. Now he's a candidate.

37. Newspapers are worth fighting for – even when they’re wrong - Telegraph
Our imperilled press has proved its value. Don’t let over-regulation weaken it fatally, argues Boris Johnson.Poor old Judge Leveson. I wouldn’t want to be in his shoes. After all those months of hearings, he is now expected to come up with proposals to “regulate” the media, and the Labour Party has said it will back whatever he says. The longer he deliberates, cold towel wrapped around his throbbing temples, the louder the caterwauling from either side of the argument....... it seems incredible that we are proposing new regulation for the traditional forms of media just when they are facing the biggest threat to print since Gutenberg. I have it on good authority that they had a brainstorming session at the Guardian the other day, and discussed the possibility of axing the print version altogether. There is apparently a well-advanced plan to stop the presses, spare the trees and go completely online, within the next two years....... Take it online and you lose all political impact; you lose the vital editorial marshalling of the often excellent journalists and cartoonists and photographers into a single daily statement, a single product – and everything gets lost in the morass of Google news. We will always need a real and not a virtual Guardian.Guilt-ridden Lefties will need it to swat the mosquitoes in Tuscany, or to light the wood-burning stoves in their second homes, or to line the tuck boxes of their little ones as they guiltily pack them off – like dear Polly Toynbee – to their fee-paying schools. And it would be a calamity for us Conservatives if we no longer knew what the enemy was thinking. We need a paper that is genuinely, viscerally hostile to anything that looks remotely like a spirit of enterprise and competition. We need a paper that believes capitalism is fundamentally flawed; that wishes fewer people had jobs in financial services; that thinks the euro was and still is a jolly fine idea; that dislikes the ideology of home ownership (except for Guardian journalists, who are allowed to have more than one); that dislikes anything “elitist” (except for the schools attended by the children of Guardian journalists).

38. SEBASTIAN SHAKESPEARE: Boris, the lost Rolling Stone | Mail Online
Would you give this busker 20p? Boris Johnson, the Mayor of London, showed off his musical skills — or lack of them — with an impromptu performance on an acoustic Gibson guitar at St Pancras Station before meeting winners of a busking competition.Boris (above) used to hero worship Keith Richards in his youth and, aged 16, tried to emulate the Rolling Stone by buying a pair of tight purple cords and playing (I Can’t Get No) Satisfaction on a borrowed guitar.‘My abysmal failure to become a rock star only deepened my hero worship,’ said Johnson.

41. Which? hails Boris’s rail investment | Back Boris 2012 Blog
A rail passenger survey by Which? Magazine shows that London Overground has been voted the most improved commuter company, a ringing endorsement of Boris Johnson’s management of and investment in the line. Southeastern railway, which the Mayor proposes to takeover with his plans for suburban rail, came bottom of the table – showing how needed his improvements are.The results come on the day Boris visited Clapham Junction, which would benefit from his plans for extending London's first orbital rail network. This independent survey is also a boost for point 8 of Boris’s 9 point plan for Greater London: reducing tube delays by 30% by 2015, building Crossrail and an orbital rail to link our suburbs, and extending the bike hire scheme.

45. Boris says he is 'different' from the Tories - Telegraph
Boris Johnson has claimed he is “different” from the Conservative-led government as he attempts to win voters’ support for a second term as Mayor of London.Mr Johnson said the result of Thursday’s election would show whether David Cameron’s plummeting poll ratings had compromised his own chances of success. The official Conservative candidate promised that, if elected, he would not duck a fight with the Chancellor, George Osborne, and would argue for more state money for Londoners.Mr Johnson’s remarks will be seen as an attempt to position himself as a separate brand from the Tories, as polling consistently shows his own personal popularity ratings to be far ahead of his party’s.

47. Boris is unstoppable, and now Murdoch wants him to lead the Tory party – Telegraph Blogs
David Cameron is on course to lose the next election, and his leadership, and he knows it. He has admitted as much to friends, who are even now using the summer weeks to debate what might be done to get the Prime Minister out of his difficulties. On the surface, normal business is suspended. The Olympic truce has been embraced by the political classes. The Games fortnight offers a respite from daily combat. But behind the scenes nothing has changed. The Government is still scratching around furiously to produce some sort of autumn relaunch that might give the Coalition fresh impetus, while Tory MPs agonise about their future and scheme their schemes. And among the plotters, it is Boris Johnson who has snatched the spotlight away from the Prime Minister and used the Games as a launch pad for his leadership ambitions.
