145. EXCLUSIVE: 'It's madness!' Ukip MEP slams Nick Clegg's £66m wind farm plan | UK | News | Daily...
A SENIOR Ukip MEP has attacked Nick Clegg's plans to make Britain "the cutting-edge green economy in the world".Ministers today launched radical plans for the offshore wind power industry as they formally opened Centrica Energy's £1 billion wind farm in Lincolnshire. It was announced £66 million will be invested to improve the supply chain for offshore wind developments, boost innovation and bring new products to market. But Euro MP Roger Helmer has blasted the controversial strategy, which is being set out by the Deputy Prime Minister and Energy Secretary Ed Davey, branding it "useless"."Not only is Nick Clegg mad, he is also about 18 months out of date – no one is interested in wind power anymore," Mr Helmer said.

146. Nigel Farage, Jon Snow and the Romanian Elephant In The Room
UKIP leader Nigel Farage has got himself into a pickle over the "R-word". Three "R-words" in fact: Roma; Romanian - and the one that inevitably crops up when you try either to discuss or indeed to blur the distinction between the first two. Racist. No sensible politician - not even with a neck as long as Nige's - likes being called a "racist." Hence the full-page apologia paid for by UKIP in the Daily Telegraph on Monday in which Farage attempted to justify his position on "Romanians" in the wake of his "car-crash interview" with a hostile LBC presenter.Farage quoted statistics from London's Metropolitan Police saying that 92 percent of all ATM crime in London is committed by Romanians, and that last year 28,000 Romanians were arrested by the London police force. He added that 240 Romanian gangs caused seven percent of all crime across the European Union. But the facts were no defence.

147. Archbishop Sentamu's real offence in the eyes of his nasty critics is that he sticks firmly to...
The public debate about the succession to the post of Archbishop of Canterbury brought to my mind an incident some years ago in the days of the NuLab government, when I derived some constructive amusement from my work on the Opposition back benches. As I walked up the stairs from the Members’ entrance to the House, one of the more light-heated of the bishops fell into step with me, and we exchanged greetings before he cheerily asked me: “What mischief are you up to today, Lord Tebbit?”

148. Dr Liam Fox adds fuel to incendiary debate over immigration from EU that is dividing the Cabinet

149. The ghosts of Hampden,Pym and Eliot should haunt Parliament today
Members of Parliament are heirs to a great tradition. Some of our predecessors took great personal risks to defend and extend the liberties of Englishmen and women. They fought to prevent the executive government, the Crown, exercising too much arbitrary power at the expense of the people.Today we need to remember that when Parliament debates whether important matters of criminal justice, recently repatriated to UK control, should be surrendered to the EU. John Hampden, John Pym and John Eliot fought against a Crown which wanted to presume to itself the power to tax without reference to the grievances and rights of those paying the bills. They fought to uphold the right of Parliament to fashion the law and ensure its fair enforcement. John Eliot died prematurely from his stay in prison for refusing to accept Ship money. John Hampden died of his wounds in an early battle of the civil war. Their cause was just and ultimately upheld.Today the threat to our liberties and right of self government comes not from the Crown but from the EU.

152. How Could Mark Reckless Be So Wicked as to Deceive Dave, Whose Name Is a By-Word For Integrity?
Is there no limit to the depth of human depravity? Be warned: if you are morally squeamish this report will shock you. Rumours, even solid allegations, are emerging that Mark Reckless was not entirely candid with Dave’s enforcers on the eve of his departure to UKIP.When the Stasi from the Tory Whips’ Office came to call, while they flexed their rubber truncheons suggestively, Reckless assured them he had no intention of defecting. It is almost as if his first loyalty was already to UKIP rather than to This Great Party of Ours.

153. UK, EU, and US Governments Fund Group Pushing Anti-UKIP Propaganda
The European Commission is pumping propaganda money into Britain, trying to interfere in the elections to the European Parliament.International Alert, an international “peace building” group set up in 1986 in response to ethnic conflict and genocide in Asia and Africa, and part-funded by the EU, has now set up a propaganda operation in Britain which claims it will “counter racist and xenophobic discourse in the UK in the run-up to the European elections.”The reference is thought to be a veiled reference to Nigel Farage's UK Independence Party (UKIP), as many europhiles and left-wing organisations refer to the eurosceptic party as "racist" or "xenophobic".

155. Reply on Immigration | John Redwood's Diary
I recently posted the government statement of what they are doing about immigration because I know how important this issue is to many who read this site. Some of you were grateful and surprised by how much action the government is taking. Others cynically complained that it was all words, pointing out that over the last year there has still been a high level of entry.I have listened carefully to Ministers and talked regularly to them about what they are doing. I am quite sure they wish to control numbers, and are taking actions which they believe will do that in a fair and sensible way. They are well aware that so far the numbers have not reduced, but point out that it takes time to get each of these measures into effect and to ensure they are working well at each entry point into the country. They accept that the proof of their measures comes over the next year, when they expect to see results. They are of course ready and willing to examine other ways to achieve what they wish to achieve, especially if the numbers do not decline as they expect.

157. How much extra revenue do you get from cutting the top tax rate - The Treasury says £4billion
As always the Red Book published at the time of the last budget rests unread by many MPs and commentators. In it is the following interesting figures:Revenue from self assessment Income Tax2011-12 £20.1 billion2012-13 £22.3 billion2013-14 £22.9 billion2014-15 £28.5 billionSelf assessment tax receipts are dominated by receipts from higher rate taxpayers. 2011-13, when they average £21.2 billion a year , is in the period of the 50%tax rate. 2013-15, when they average £25.7 billion, is a period of the lower 45p rate. The figures also include, of course, the impact of the reduced allowances on the tax revenue, which the Treasury forecasts to increase revenues by £490 million in 2014-15, but to have no impact in 2013-14. So if we exclude that effect, the average Self Assessment revenue for the second two year period comes out at £25.45 billion, still £4.25 billion higher per year than at the 50p rate.So according to the government they will average £4.25 billion a year more at the 45p tax rate they are currently averaging at the 50p tax rate.

158. From ferrets to fish...New EU laws that are ruining Britain | UK | News | Daily Express
THE merciless grip of Brussels on the lives of millions of Britons is laid bare today by the Daily Express.European Union meddlers have forced the UK to make more than 150 changes to laws, ranging from ferrets’ welfare, how fish is labelled to checks on air-conditioning units. The legislation, which was rubber-stamped by a powerless Parliament in Westminster, shows how the EU’s tentacles reach into every aspect of our lives from medicines to housing and transport, and from energy to the legal system. There was outrage last night at the revelations, which were obtained under the Freedom of Information Act. Tory MP Peter Bone said: “We cannot do anything about this legislation. We cannot amend it, we are powerless to stop it. It is fundamentally undemocratic.”

159. 'Conservative' UK Government Set To Ban Cigarette Labels | The Daily Caller
With a national election just months away, British Prime Minister David Cameron has decided to pick a peculiar fight by attempting to ram through a bill that would require cigarettes to be sold in generic packaging without any brand markings. The effort has outraged dozens of Cameron’s own Conservatives in Parliament. and could potentially drive some voters to the alternative U.K. Independence Party (UKIP).
