- 226. 'I don't give a flying fuck about patients': What nurse at scandal-hit Stafford Hospital said...
Two nurses faked patient records to meet targets at scandal-hit Stafford Hospital - with one also found to have used foul mouthed language about patients.Sharon Turner and Tracy White falsified accident and emergency discharge times to avoid missing a government goal for patients to be dealt with within four hours. The Nursing and Midwifery Council (NMC) also found that nurse Sharon Turner used foul mouthed language about patients and threatened to make her colleague’s life 'hell'.She also made racially-motivated comments about doctors at Mid Staffordshire NHS Foundation Trust and falsified A&E waiting times data, the nursing regulator found.Between December 2003 and October 2009, when Ms Turner worked at the trust, she spoke about patients and staff in an 'inappropriate manner', the NMC panel ruled. On one occasion she said that she didn’t give a 'flying fuck” about patients. She also said 'they can fucking wait' and 'they want to get real', or words to that effect.

- 229. Now small firms are targeted by taxman: After the sweetheart deals with big business, HMRC plans...
Tax inspectors are threatening tens of thousands of small firms with fines if they fail spot checks on their paperwork. The HM Revenue & Customs crackdown comes despite a Government pledge to cut red tape and regulation for small businesses.Tory MPs say the proposed blitz on small firms is a disgrace and must be dropped.HMRC has been piloting the ‘business record checks’ in eight areas. Inspectors trawl through company paperwork dating back several years looking for what they deem to be inadequate proof of expenses and income.Firms found to have failed to keep or preserve records ‘in real time’ can be fined up to £3,000. The pilot projects suggest that around 12 per cent of firms would fail the audit.Under the HMRC’s plans to expand the checks, as many as 20,000 small businesses will face demands to show receipts for income and expenditure. Those who are unable to do so will face penalties, which business leaders warn could push some into bankruptcy and hit the economic recovery.John Walker, national chairman of the Federation of Small Businesses, said: ‘Despite the worsening economy HMRC are launching this scheme regardless of the consequences.Conservative MP Priti Patel accused HMRC of harassment, adding: ‘The attitude of HMRC to small businesses is frankly disgraceful at a time when they are blatantly doing deals with large firms which have allowed them to escape millions of pounds in tax liabilities. At a time when small businesses need all the help they can get, the attitude of HMRC seems completely counterproductive.‘Instead of persecuting small firms, they should ditch this entire project and start working with them to support them in whatever way they can at a moment of economic difficulty.’Anne-Marie Morris, Tory MP for Newton Abbot and a member of an all-party group on micro-businesses, said: ‘Very small businesses are being treated in the same way as larger ones with better resources.‘It is simply not practical for a company employing just a few people to spend huge sections of their day on administration as well as getting their firm off the ground.’

An energy saving scheme championed by the Government could be causing homes to overheat.Ministers are encouraging homeowners to improve insulation and install other environmental measures under their flagship Green Deal. But experts warn that while insulation may save energy in the winter, it could trap in excessive heat during the summer months if badly installed. It poses a particular health risk for the elderly, who could ‘die from overheating’.A report by a climate research group warned ‘Green Deal measures could create new problems in the future, with inappropriately-insulated properties experiencing poor indoor air quality and significant summer overheating’.

- 233. Why do I call them bat-chomping, bird-slicing eco crucifixes….? – Telegraph Blogs
I wonder what it will take before the world truly wakes up to the horror, the corruption, the expense, the pointlessness, the total wrongness-in-every-way of the wind industry. My guess – and it will happen – is the decapitation, by a rogue turbine blade, of an innocent passer-by.Till then, though, we have photographs like this to send the mind boggling as to why anyone, anywhere can still be so purblind as to go on championing these bat-chomping, bird-slicing eco crucifixes. What's particularly interesting about this one is that it was taken in the constituency of one of wind power's most fervent and tireless advocates, Caroline Lucas MP.Here's a picture of the Brighton Bird Chomper
