49. Chart shows how much prices would be if fast-food workers were paid $15 an hour - Young Conservatives
I hope you’re ready for “The Dollar Menu” to become the “The Dollar Thirty-Eight Menu”.When things on the dollar menu are $1.38, who does that hurt the most? Poor people. That’s what liberals just don’t understand. They say things that make you feel good then implement policy that is doomed for failure.

51. Why is the US economy doing better than the UK? | John Redwood's Diary
All the so called neo-Kenysians are out and about telling us that the US is recovering well owing to further fiscal stimulus, whilst the UK is said to be faltering thanks to a government “cutting too far and too fast”. It is time to debunk this nonsense.Let me start by saying I think Keynes was a great economist. His insights into the creation of money, inflation, and growth are important. All mainstream political parties are heir to his traditions in several respects. All agree that the state should borrow to offset a fall in demand in a recession. All agree that there needs to be controls over money and credit creation with a monopoly money system organised by the state. The Central Bank has to decide on overall levels of money and credit. They do not, however, tend to follow his precepts in a boom, when they ought to be asking the state to control spending and repay debt.

52. Mansion tax: Labour shows its true colours with this spiteful tax on homes - Telegraph
If the two Eds get their way, an Englishman’s home will not be a castle, but a leaky ruin.At last we can see exactly what kind of a Labour leader Ed Miliband proposes to be – and he is taking his party right back to the politics of envy and nihilistic class war that kept them out of office for a generation. The proposal for a new tax on people’s homes is ill-thought-out, unjust and un-British.The proposed tax is unfair on those who may be asset-rich – the elderly widow springs to mind – but whose income is low. If Labour were to pursue the policy announced last week, and set the threshold at £2 million, the result would be bizarre – from discontinued improvements to deliberate vandalism: anything to help the home owner limbo dance under the danger area. It is peculiar to try to raise money for the state by taxing this one particular form of wealth, and in this one particular way. As for Labour, they have shown their true colours. The Blairites in the party must be watching with incredulity and despair. Never mind the individual injustices – the message of the Miliband policy is that Labour is once again hostile to one of the deepest instincts of the British people: to show the energy, enterprise and ambition to want to improve your own home and to raise its value. I cannot believe Miliband will pursue this policy through to the election. If he does, he will have signed his political death warrant.

53. Crown Bank lavs - Hanley's cross-legged community suffer again: John Woodhouse Personally Speaking Read more: http://www.stokesentinel.co.uk/Crown-Bank-lavs-Hanley-s-cross-legged-community/story-29320225-detail/story.html#ixzz49nkMtNu5 Follow us: @SentinelStaffs on Twitter | sentinelstaffs on Facebook
THERE are many traditions about which the British public are hugely protective – the freedom to roam the countryside, cream teas, Fiona Bruce. But one more than any other dominates – the right of access to the public toilet.Hanley's cross-legged community have suffered greatly in recent months. Crown Bank toilets were closed as a cost-cutting measure. When care homes and libraries are being shut down it seems a bit much to spend tens of thousands sluicing away shoppers' unpleasantries.Councils, though, will always underestimate the strength of public feeling when it comes to lavatorial access. For many, the lack of a convenience has proved a great inconvenience. There was always going to be a backsplash. Sorry, backlash.

60. Ed Miliband lookalike: The worst job I ever had | Mail Online
One of the funniest, and filthiest, sketches on Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’s disgusting Derek and Clive Live tapes was called The Worst Job I Ever Had.This being a family newspaper, I won’t detain you with the lurid details. But I’ve often wondered what would be the worst job in the world today.I don’t mean having to stack shelves in Poundland, which some dopey bird has just claimed is a denial of her fundamental human rights.Cait Reilly was even given a column in — where else? — the Guardian yesterday to whine that being asked to undertake a few weeks’ unpaid training at Poundland, or forfeit her £53 a week Jobseeker’s Allowance, was not just beneath her dignity, it was tantamount to ‘forced labour’.Shelf-stacking may not require a university education, or generate much intellectual stimulation, but it is honest toil and provides a valuable service. If it was a toss-up between stacking shelves or going in to politics, you’d find most sensible folk banging on the back door of Poundland any day of the week.According to the Boys in the Bubble, the worst job in the world right now is Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.Even in the vipers’ nest of Westminster, there are very few people who would volunteer to swap places with Ed Miliband. His opinion poll ratings are at rock bottom, his own party openly mutinous. There were times when, if only out of professional curiosity, I’d have taken a passing interest in the fate of the leader of the Labour Party. But the moment Miliband popped up on the Andy Marr show on Sunday, I decided life was too short and switched over immediately to Sky Sports, where Brian Woolnough and his guests were discussing the far more interesting topic of two-footed tackles.Ed Miliband wouldn’t even win a popularity contest in his own family.

62. Study: The sun has more impact on the climate in cool periods | Watts Up With That?
The activity of the Sun is an important factor in the complex interaction that controls our climate. New research now shows that the impact of the Sun is not constant over time, but has greater significance when the Earth is cooler. There has been much discussion as to whether variations in the strength of the Sun have played a role in triggering climate change in the past, but more and more research results clearly indicate that solar activity – i.e. the amount of radiation coming from the Sun – has an impact on how the climate varies over time.In a new study published in the scientific journal Geology, researchers from institutions including Aarhus University in Denmark show that, during the last 4,000 years, there appears to have been a close correlation between solar activity and the sea surface temperature in summer in the North Atlantic. This correlation is not seen in the preceding period.
