370. Chris Grayling: High borrowing and high bills - Labour is the same old party - Telegraph
Labour's central argument that we need to borrow will add an extra Ł2,960 in debt to every working family, says Justice Secretary Chris Grayling.Over the summer we’ve seen more encouraging news that our economy is healing: the growth figures are heading in the right direction, exports are rising, foreign investment is increasing and unemployment is falling. All the reliable indicators confirm that things are beginning to recover. Labour’s central argument for the past three years - that we needed to borrow more to get things moving - has been discredited.

But for families up and down the country, life is still very tough: bills need to be paid, the car needs to go for its MOT, the children want the odd treat. For many, the cost of living remains a real struggle.

371. Robert Halfon MP: Let’s give White Van Conservatism wheels – scrap the 3p fuel tax rise!
On Tuesday, I tabled a Private Members Bill on petrol prices, supported by many other Conservative backbenchers, as well as MPs from Northern Ireland, and Scotland. (You can see an extract in the short video above.) The idea behind it was very simple: that fuel tax should be crystal clear to motorists. In essence, this would sweep away the complex regulations about what fuel garages can and cannot put on their till receipts, and replace them with one simple rule. That whenever you fill up the family car, the till receipt should say in black and white how much fuel duty, VAT, and petrol you have paid. It should also say how much is actually being spent on Britain’s roads. Simple. This would make the tax system more honest; it would be a big deterrent against any future tax-rises; and it would add pressure on the oil companies to be fair.

373. Why do I call them bat-chomping, bird-slicing eco crucifixes….? – Telegraph Blogs
I wonder what it will take before the world truly wakes up to the horror, the corruption, the expense, the pointlessness, the total wrongness-in-every-way of the wind industry. My guess – and it will happen – is the decapitation, by a rogue turbine blade, of an innocent passer-by.Till then, though, we have photographs like this to send the mind boggling as to why anyone, anywhere can still be so purblind as to go on championing these bat-chomping, bird-slicing eco crucifixes. What's particularly interesting about this one is that it was taken in the constituency of one of wind power's most fervent and tireless advocates, Caroline Lucas MP.Here's a picture of the Brighton Bird Chomper

375. Tory minister Michael Fallon sent by No.10 to keep tabs on Vince Cable | Mail Online
A Tory minister in Vince Cable’s business department has described his frustration that his boss frequently ‘slips his electronic tag’ by making anti-business speeches. In a sign of increasing rifts at the top of the Coalition, Michael Fallon – a close ally of Chancellor George Osborne – said the Lib Dem Business Secretary sometimes went off-piste by criticising wealth creators.Mr Fallon, a former Conservative vice-chairman, was promoted by David Cameron in September’s reshuffle amid rumours he was being installed in the business department to ‘keep an eye’ on Mr Cable.Tory critics of the Business Secretary say he is the most ‘anti-business’ person ever to hold the post, and Mr Cable often disagrees with his Tory junior ministers over the direction of policy.

378. Top climate expert's sensational claim of government meddling in crucial UN report | Mail Online
A top US academic has dramatically revealed how government officials forced him to change a hugely influential scientific report on climate change to suit their own interests.Harvard professor Robert Stavins electrified the worldwide debate on climate change on Friday by sensationally publishing a letter online in which he spelled out the astonishing interference. He said the officials, representing ‘all the main countries and regions of the world’ insisted on the changes in a late-night meeting at a Berlin conference centre two weeks ago.Three quarters of the original version of the document ended up being deleted.Prof Stavins claimed the intervention amounted to a serious ‘conflict of interest’ between scientists and governments. His revelation is significant because it is rare for climate change experts to publicly question the process behind the compilation of reports on the subject.

Have a look at this chart. It tells you pretty much all you need to know about the much-anticipated scoop by Anthony Watts of Watts Up With That? What it means, in a nutshell, is that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – the US government body in charge of America's temperature record, has systematically exaggerated the extent of late 20th century global warming. In fact, it has doubled it.

380. Occupy are not the solution: they embody the problem – Telegraph Blogs
The other day I had a dig at Occupy St Paul's. It didn't make me popular with our menagerie of house trolls, most of whom felt I wasn't entitled to an opinion because I had been privately educated or because I don't transcribe press releases from Greenpeace or because I'm called James Delingpole and therefore totally evil. But one or two of the newbie trolls actually had a brave stab at making an argument.By criticising the Church's craven decision to appease the Occupy mob by proposing to erect a memorial in their honour, the argument ran, I was defending the Bankster/Corporatist establishment and, by extension, everything that is rotten with the modern world. Here's the weird thing though: I agree almost entirely with this analysis. As I've argued before, the greatest division in the Western world today lies not between rich and poor, working class and upper class, or Left and Right, but between on the one hand the rapacious, unaccountable Bankster/Corporatist/Political establishment and on the other everybody else. Why then, aren't I standing with the Occupy St Paul's crowd right now, making this point more vociferously?Simple. Because though my analysis of the problem may be quite similar to the Occupy crowd's, my solution couldn't be more different. This is why – as the above video explains – Tea Party types like me are unlikely ever to find common cause with Occupy. We're classical liberals who believe in low taxes, limited government, property rights and equality of opportunity, whereas they are progressives who believe in greater government control and wealth redistribution in order to create equality of outcome.

381. Climate scientists: not evil, maybe a bit stupid, definitely in a world all of their own –...
The Durban climate conference has been an abject failure. But that hasn't stopped those who were there desperately trying – with all the plausibility of Monty Python's Black Knight – to spin their disaster as though it represents some kind of massive triumph. Among them is a man named Michael Jacobs, formerly climate adviser to Gordon Brown. In his Guardian column today, Jacobs argues that "the conference that has ended in Durban, South Africa, amid considerable drama, should be regarded as very much a success."I disagree. And today we met on Sky News to discuss it.By the time Jacobs left he was not a happy bunny. He left the set very quickly, apparently not a little discombobulated that I had just accused him (off camera, unfortunately) of talking "weapons-grade b***ocks". But then, he had started it by turning to me immediately after we'd done our recording and saying: "You are entitled to your opinion. What you are not entitled to are your own facts."

382. It's time we stood up to the vicious bullies of the 'caring' liberal Left – Telegraph...
Who are the most unpleasant people on the internet? Obviously with so much competition, it is, to paraphrase Dr Johnson, like arguing the toss between lice and fleas. Nonetheless, after the recent experiences of critic and author Philip Hensher – which I describe in more detail here – I’d suggest that disability rights activists are a strong contender.Hensher wrote a piece suggesting – not unreasonably given the state of our shrinking economy and the size of our debt – that maybe 2.4 cent of GDP is a bit much for Britain to spend on disability benefits (US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain all spend less) and that maybe not all these recipients of taxpayers' largesse were quite as deserving as others. For expressing this mildly argued and not-exactly-extreme viewpoint Hensher was vilified, threatened with death and all but hounded off the internet by a shrill mob of self-appointed disability rights activists. I doubt they speak for the majority in Britain; I doubt they even speak for the majority of the disabled, most of whom I'm sure are properly appalled that money which could go to the genuinely needy is instead being hijacked by scroungers and fakes.

384. Hello Obama second term; bye bye Western Civilization – Telegraph Blogs
"Can't wait for the leftards' misery when Romney wins. It will be like eating foie gras to the sound of trumpets." @jamesdelingpole on Twitter last week.Well: I think that's what they call a 'hostage to fortune.' And, of course, I don't remotely blame all the leftards who've been blowing raspberries in response. I'm sure I would have done just the same had our positions been reversed.Nonetheless it seems to me that the victory the Obamaphiles have won is entirely Pyrrhic. In what way, I would like to ask them, is a second term for a proven failure a good thing? On the evidence of Obama's four years in power so far, what exactly have they seen that augurs so well for the next four years of the American presidency? Was it his resolute decision to sacrifice the lives of four brave men in Benghazi, perhaps?Or was it his truly heartwarming eagerness to reward his friends at Solyndra by handing them $500 million of taxpayers' money for a business that was essentially worthless?
