65. Who's to blame for UK's 'cost of living crisis'? Labour, of course - Telegraph
Labour have already lost the argument on austerity and cost of living. Ed Miliband can’t do anything about the economic adjustment.Something quite unexpected happened to me at the weekend. Filling up the car with petrol, I found it to be noticeably cheaper than the last time I did it. Admittedly, this was a while back. All the same, I’ve become so hardened by years of rising pump prices, that to have my presumptions shattered in such a pleasing way was really quite a shock.Nor is it just fuel prices that have been falling. According to the British Retail Consortium, shop prices fell 1.4pc in February, following a 1pc fall in January. Even food price inflation, at “just” 1.1pc in February, is at a seven-year low.

66. UKIP Death Threat MEP: Labour Should Rebrand Itself the 'Paedophile Protection Party'
UKIP MEP Jane Collins has slammed the Labour Party's attitude to child abuse, accusing Mr Miliband's organisation of trying to "keep quiet and ride the storm" during scandals such as the one that has gripped Rotherham over the past decade.Ms. Collins – who is now on the receiving end of police protection for speaking out against the mass rape and child abuse of thousands of young girls at the hands of Pakistani men – said on the BBC's Sunday Politics programme that Labour should rename itself the ‘PPP – The Paedophile Protection Party’.

67. The paradox of democracy in the UK
Let me return like a moth to the flame to the question of UKIP. I get plenty of criticism on this site for fighting the good fight against the use and extension of EU power on the simple ground that I do not join UKIP, who happen to agree with some of my views. I will try again to explain why I and other like minded Conservative MPs will continue to battle for the restoration of UK democracy as Conservatives.

Tony Blair is a 'tragic' egomaniac who will never be forgiven for thinking he is too good for Britain, his former friend Robert Harris has claimed. The best-selling author lashed out at Mr Blair for turning his back on Parliament once he quit as PM to go and 'hang out with a lot of rich people in America'.He said the former Labour leader had changed out of all recognition from the friend he knew.

70. Ed Miliband now less popular than Nick Clegg: Just 20% think he's doing a good job | Mail...
Ed Miliband must work harder to get his message across to the public if Labour is to recover from a 'shaky start' to 2012, senior Labour MP Alan Johnson warned. The former cabinet minister said he believed the party leader had 'the personality, the intellect and the steely determination to succeed'.But he said that unless he got out 'on the stump' to gain public recognition and made the Opposition sound more relevant to ordinary voters it would be in trouble. The intervention of Mr Johnson, who stepped down as shadow chancellor almost a year ago for personal reasons, comes after a damning poll showed most voters now think that Mr Miliband is doing a worse job than Nick Clegg. The YouGov survey found that just 20 per cent of people say Mr Miliband is performing well as Labour leader, while 21 per cent think the same of Mr Clegg as leader of the Liberal Democrats, despite his party’s unpopularity.By contrast, 44 per cent of people think David Cameron is doing well as Prime Minister. The findings – the worst for Mr Miliband since he defeated his brother David for the Labour crown – came as MPs began to suggest publicly that he needs to 'get a grip'.

Conservative HQ issued a new dossier overnight that argues that Labour frontbenchers have been making reckless spending commitments that would add £326 billion to the national debt over the next five years compared to the Governments plans. 72. Labour condemned for 'shameful' attempt to scare parents | Daily Mail Online
Labour has been accused of a ‘shameful’ attempt to scare parents into thinking their young children will not get a place at school in September.Furious Education Secretary Nicky Morgan told MailOnline parents deserved better than ‘scare stories’ peddled by Labour politicians putting their own interests before those of the country’s children. It comes after Labour’s Tristram Hunt claimed there was a ‘crippling’ shortage of places, despite the government committing £7billion for increasing school sizes over the next six years.

73. DAILY MAIL COMMENT: How quangos are still in Labour's iron grip | Mail Online
Ousted Labour quangocrat Sally Morgan has scored a dramatic own goal against her party by accusing David Cameron of stuffing public bodies with Tory supporters. For her bitter outburst – the very opposite of the truth – has succeeded only in highlighting Labour’s overwhelming domination of these supposedly apolitical, taxpayer-funded authorities.Indeed, one of the most underhand achievements of the last government was ruthlessly to remove huge areas of public administration from democratic control, swelling quangos’ powers and putting its own placemen in charge.

74. Labour councillors forced to be union members | Local Government
For most the closed show may have gone but it still applies to Labour councillors and Labour council candidates. The Communities and Local Government Secretary Eric Pickles is reviewing the rules on councillors' declarations of interest - at present they only have to declare sponsorship from a trade union. However if they can't find a union, affliated to the Labour Party, to allow them to be a member then they are not eligibile to be a councillor. This is surely a relevant concern that should be declared. Surely acting against his union's policy is something a Labour councillor would wish to avoid?

76. Ed Miliband's masterstroke to beat the floods? Let's call in a fleet of oil lorries to 'vacuum up' water
Last week The Mail on Sunday published the first extracts from a book by the former Labour Mayor of Doncaster, Martin Winter, which gives a revealing and at times hilarious insight into Ed Miliband’s character.Winter, with whom Miliband lived while campaigning to become an MP, described how the future Labour leader told him a year before the financial crash of 2008 that the ‘economy was about to fall off a cliff’ – and how Labour planned to hold a snap Election before voters found out, but had to abandon the idea.It also disclosed how Miliband set fire to Mr Winter’s office and bought a Muslim prayer mat to replace the burnt carpet.

77. Red Ed's on a high - but he's doomed if he doesn't win over the striving classes... | Mail...
Although criticised for his shortage of charisma and geek-like mannerisms, Ed Miliband arrives in Manchester today for Labour’s annual conference with an opinion poll lead of 10-12 points. Life could hardly seem better for him. The party is remarkably united — which is quite an achievement when one recalls it only polled 29 per cent of the vote in the last General Election. It was then plunged into a fratricidal leadership contest, in which the union block vote helped Ed Miliband narrowly beat his brother, David, who was the choice of Labour MPs. Since then, Ed Miliband — to the surprise of many — has won the trust of his party. He has grown in the job, although the polls still say the public see David Cameron as a more credible prime minister.

80. 100,000 extra pages of EU rules under Labour | Roger Helmer MEP
Research by the think tank Open Europe has shown that the Acquis is now over 170,000 pages long in total and that from 1998 to 2008 the number of legal acts in force in the EU has gone from 10,800 in 1998 to over 26,500 in 2008.While some legislation may be advantageous, for example if it helps complete the internal market, the sheer volume of new EU rules represents an added burden on business and highlights how Labour has failed to prevent powers being passed to the EU in a number of important areas. For example, EU labour market laws already account for over 20 percent of the total cost of regulation in the UK. Despite this, the UK government has agreed to a new directive that would force employers to give agency workers equal rights as full-time staff, thus adding new burdens to business. Labour MEPs are also still seeking new ways to scrap Britain’s opt-out of the Working Time Directive, which has been essential for workers and businesses to remain competitive.
