Ukip has vowed to target the seats of MPs who voted against triggering Article 50 last night, despite serving constituencies who voted Leave the European Union in June. 149. Global Warming? Yeah, right | Telegraph Blogs
Have a look at this chart. It tells you pretty much all you need to know about the much-anticipated scoop by Anthony Watts of Watts Up With That? What it means, in a nutshell, is that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) – the US government body in charge of America's temperature record, has systematically exaggerated the extent of late 20th century global warming. In fact, it has doubled it.

150. Occupy are not the solution: they embody the problem – Telegraph Blogs
The other day I had a dig at Occupy St Paul's. It didn't make me popular with our menagerie of house trolls, most of whom felt I wasn't entitled to an opinion because I had been privately educated or because I don't transcribe press releases from Greenpeace or because I'm called James Delingpole and therefore totally evil. But one or two of the newbie trolls actually had a brave stab at making an argument.By criticising the Church's craven decision to appease the Occupy mob by proposing to erect a memorial in their honour, the argument ran, I was defending the Bankster/Corporatist establishment and, by extension, everything that is rotten with the modern world. Here's the weird thing though: I agree almost entirely with this analysis. As I've argued before, the greatest division in the Western world today lies not between rich and poor, working class and upper class, or Left and Right, but between on the one hand the rapacious, unaccountable Bankster/Corporatist/Political establishment and on the other everybody else. Why then, aren't I standing with the Occupy St Paul's crowd right now, making this point more vociferously?Simple. Because though my analysis of the problem may be quite similar to the Occupy crowd's, my solution couldn't be more different. This is why – as the above video explains – Tea Party types like me are unlikely ever to find common cause with Occupy. We're classical liberals who believe in low taxes, limited government, property rights and equality of opportunity, whereas they are progressives who believe in greater government control and wealth redistribution in order to create equality of outcome.

151. Climate scientists: not evil, maybe a bit stupid, definitely in a world all of their own –...
The Durban climate conference has been an abject failure. But that hasn't stopped those who were there desperately trying – with all the plausibility of Monty Python's Black Knight – to spin their disaster as though it represents some kind of massive triumph. Among them is a man named Michael Jacobs, formerly climate adviser to Gordon Brown. In his Guardian column today, Jacobs argues that "the conference that has ended in Durban, South Africa, amid considerable drama, should be regarded as very much a success."I disagree. And today we met on Sky News to discuss it.By the time Jacobs left he was not a happy bunny. He left the set very quickly, apparently not a little discombobulated that I had just accused him (off camera, unfortunately) of talking "weapons-grade b***ocks". But then, he had started it by turning to me immediately after we'd done our recording and saying: "You are entitled to your opinion. What you are not entitled to are your own facts."

152. It's time we stood up to the vicious bullies of the 'caring' liberal Left – Telegraph...
Who are the most unpleasant people on the internet? Obviously with so much competition, it is, to paraphrase Dr Johnson, like arguing the toss between lice and fleas. Nonetheless, after the recent experiences of critic and author Philip Hensher – which I describe in more detail here – I’d suggest that disability rights activists are a strong contender.Hensher wrote a piece suggesting – not unreasonably given the state of our shrinking economy and the size of our debt – that maybe 2.4 cent of GDP is a bit much for Britain to spend on disability benefits (US, France, Germany, Italy, Spain all spend less) and that maybe not all these recipients of taxpayers' largesse were quite as deserving as others. For expressing this mildly argued and not-exactly-extreme viewpoint Hensher was vilified, threatened with death and all but hounded off the internet by a shrill mob of self-appointed disability rights activists. I doubt they speak for the majority in Britain; I doubt they even speak for the majority of the disabled, most of whom I'm sure are properly appalled that money which could go to the genuinely needy is instead being hijacked by scroungers and fakes.

153. Labour councillor resigns from "pompous, idiotic, self serving" Party | Local Government
Harris, who was a Labour councillor for Ibstock and Heather Ward on North West Leicestershire District Council, has resigned from the council and the Labour Party. She has complained in the strongest terms at the treatment she had from the Labour Group due to being a young councillor. She is particularly outspoken about Cllr Leon Spence, the leader of the Labour Group. In an email to the Conservative council leader, Cllr Richard Blunt she writes:"I have zero respect and loyalty for this Labour group, from day one they have treated me unfairly and differently. I have, recently been unable to attend some meetings due to working in the evenings. As a second year student at Loughborough University I am in no position financially to turn down any work and although I explained this to Leon Spence it was deemed that I was 'failing to communicate with the party'. Following this, Councillor Janet Ruff took it upon herself to investigate my past and private life, I informed Leon Spence of this but inevitably he got back to me stating I should resign as I 'could not commit to the role of councillor'. He then went on to contact Labour's regional office who wanted to organise a mediation session to which I refused due to being both busy with work and university work.I told Leon Spence that Councillor Ruff should be reprimanded for the way she had behaved but instead he continued to ostracise me from the group and group campaigns. For instance, I had to hear of the recent car park campaign that happened in my ward via-Twitter. I am sure you're aware what these people are like but the way in which they have treated me is disgraceful. Not only do I hold no respect for this group I also hold no affinity to Labour as a party in general at all anymore. The group spouts that it wants younger, intelligent councillors and as soon as they get one they treat you like you're an idiot who is wet behind the ears. I have more experience than half of them put together.

154. Hello Obama second term; bye bye Western Civilization – Telegraph Blogs
"Can't wait for the leftards' misery when Romney wins. It will be like eating foie gras to the sound of trumpets." @jamesdelingpole on Twitter last week.Well: I think that's what they call a 'hostage to fortune.' And, of course, I don't remotely blame all the leftards who've been blowing raspberries in response. I'm sure I would have done just the same had our positions been reversed.Nonetheless it seems to me that the victory the Obamaphiles have won is entirely Pyrrhic. In what way, I would like to ask them, is a second term for a proven failure a good thing? On the evidence of Obama's four years in power so far, what exactly have they seen that augurs so well for the next four years of the American presidency? Was it his resolute decision to sacrifice the lives of four brave men in Benghazi, perhaps?Or was it his truly heartwarming eagerness to reward his friends at Solyndra by handing them $500 million of taxpayers' money for a business that was essentially worthless?

155. How green bullying, junk science and EU lies killed off yet another successful industry –...
This is a story with everything: bees, junk science, the French behaving badly, the EU at its worst… (H/T Richard North at EUreferendum). You'll read it and go: "Yes! This is why I hate the EU. This is why it can never be reformed: because corruption and lies and horsetrading and an unaccountable bureaucracy of imperious apparatchiks and an inbuilt antipathy to business and free markets aren't unfortunate and rare byproducts of the system. They ARE the system."It follows on from something I wrote a few months ago about the campaign to ban neonicotinoids. I gave the piece the heading Bees, Pesticides and More Green Lies because that was the essence of the story. Green campaigners (aided and abetted by the usual celebrity rentamob) decided that the reason bee populations were suffering was because of a certain kind of pesticide in the neonicotinoid group which was causing their colonies to collapse. Never mind that neonicotinoids were, as North puts it, the fruits of years of development at a cost of millions, and vital to British agriculture; never mind that the evidence that they were causing bee deaths was small to non-existent.

156. Margaret Thatcher dead: Maggie did more for workers than her Leftie critics ever did | Mail...
Perhaps the greatest canard about the Thatcher years is that she was merely the champion of the wealthy. But this is nonsense. She did not win three elections by appealing just to millionaires, writes DOMINIC SANDBROOK.

157. Europe's crisis is about to get a whole lot worse – Telegraph Blogs
Here's your starter for ten. The European People's Party is the largest bloc in the European Council, as measured by voting weight; can you guess the second largest?Congratulations to anyone who plumped for the European Conservatives and Reformists, who edge ahead of both the Liberals and the Socialists.Euro-Lefties have been having a thin time of it recently. Only three per cent of EU citizens live under socialist or socialist-led governments. That, though, is about to change. France, where the state already consumes 56 per cent of GDP, and whose budget was last in balance in 1974, seems likely to elect François Hollande on a platform of 'growth, not austerity'. (Who knew it was that easy?) Greece, which also votes on Sunday, is inclining toward a pack of communist parties; the politicians there who talk openly of the need for cuts currently command less than seven per cent in the polls. Romania, too, is about to install a Leftist ministry, following the defeat of the last government's austerity platform. As other elections follow around Europe, we can expect more of the same. What will be the impact? Europe will accelerate all the policies that brought it to its present unhappy condition: wastrel spending, unsustainable borrowing, punitive taxation, deeper integration.

158. The Left thinks restoring rigour to GCSEs is 'unfair'. But what was 'fair' about grade inflation? | Daily Telegraph
Sometimes a news story comes along which leaves me with the sense that – despite my outward assimilation into human form – I’m actually an alien, at such variance is my response to the story, compared to that which its protagonists clearly expect to elicit, when they catalogue their woes. Such is the case with the row over GCSE marking.Today’s update reveals that Welsh schoolchildren will have their papers regraded, while those of the English will not. A trades union leader says that it’s “inconceivable” that English regrading won’t follow, somehow missing the entire point of devolution, which is to institutionalise what in other arenas we refer to as a “postcode lottery”. (If you want a single, centrally-determined approach to education (or health, or policing) across England, Scotland and Wales, don’t vote for devolution. But that’s another blog.)

159. Eurocrats are now consciously seeking to prevent a post-euro recovery – Telegraph Blogs
Give him the full £250,000, I say, this ten-year-old Dutch boy. The Wolfson Prize, the second most valuable in the world after the Nobel, is on offer to the economist who devises the best plan for an orderly dismantling of the euro. The judges have very decently sent young Jurre Hermans a €100 gift voucher, but he has not made the shortlist, which has been filled by people with more extensive academic backgrounds. Still, the lad from Gelderland Achterhoek seems to me to have got to the nub of things. If the euro is failing with its current membership, he says, change that membership. Greece should return to the drachma over a bank holiday, with restrictions and penalties to prevent a massive flight of capital. He helpfully adds a drawing of a machine that could carry out the conversion.True, Jurre's solution leaves some questions unanswered. It is neither as comprehensive nor as ingenious as the five short-listed entries. Still, Jurre he has got the big picture right. If the euro isn't working, leave. Everything else is detail. That might sound flippant, but it's not meant to be. When the crisis hit, European leaders responded by asking themselves 'how do we save the euro?' rather than 'how do we rescue the people who use the euro?' Every one of their schemes begs the question. Eurocrats have shown themselves quite willing to inflict poverty, deflation and emigration on millions rather than admit that their project is intrinsically flawed.

160. Labour caused our problems with energy prices and social mobility. Now they want to make them worse
The BBC/Guardianista Left seems to have become fascinated by the idea that the unpleasant squeeze on family budgets as pay rises lag behind prices could be magicked away by arm-twisting, strong arming or requiring, by law, employers to raise wages. Sadly they have forgotten, and would like the rest of us to forget, that it was the Blair-Brown-Balls-Miliband gang who ran up on behalf of us all the huge debts which faced George Osborne when he came into office in 2010. The debts are still there, indeed they have increased, and so too has the interest on them. That is why wages are lagging behind prices.
