113. Labour threw open doors to mass migration in secret plot to make a multicultural UK | Mail...
Labour threw open the doors to mass migration in a deliberate policy to change the social make-up of the UK, secret papers suggest.A draft report from the Cabinet Office shows that ministers wanted to ‘maximise the contribution’ of migrants to their ‘social objectives’.The number of foreigners allowed in the UK increased by as much as 50 per cent in the wake of the report, written in 2000.

114. Ed Miliband lookalike: The worst job I ever had | Mail Online
One of the funniest, and filthiest, sketches on Peter Cook and Dudley Moore’s disgusting Derek and Clive Live tapes was called The Worst Job I Ever Had.This being a family newspaper, I won’t detain you with the lurid details. But I’ve often wondered what would be the worst job in the world today.I don’t mean having to stack shelves in Poundland, which some dopey bird has just claimed is a denial of her fundamental human rights.Cait Reilly was even given a column in — where else? — the Guardian yesterday to whine that being asked to undertake a few weeks’ unpaid training at Poundland, or forfeit her £53 a week Jobseeker’s Allowance, was not just beneath her dignity, it was tantamount to ‘forced labour’.Shelf-stacking may not require a university education, or generate much intellectual stimulation, but it is honest toil and provides a valuable service. If it was a toss-up between stacking shelves or going in to politics, you’d find most sensible folk banging on the back door of Poundland any day of the week.According to the Boys in the Bubble, the worst job in the world right now is Leader of Her Majesty’s Loyal Opposition.Even in the vipers’ nest of Westminster, there are very few people who would volunteer to swap places with Ed Miliband. His opinion poll ratings are at rock bottom, his own party openly mutinous. There were times when, if only out of professional curiosity, I’d have taken a passing interest in the fate of the leader of the Labour Party. But the moment Miliband popped up on the Andy Marr show on Sunday, I decided life was too short and switched over immediately to Sky Sports, where Brian Woolnough and his guests were discussing the far more interesting topic of two-footed tackles.Ed Miliband wouldn’t even win a popularity contest in his own family.

115. Ed Miliband'ss windfall tax on tobacco to fund the NHS is economically illiterate | The Spectator
The ‘windfall tax’, a concept introduced in the UK by the Blair government, is by definition a one-off seizure of revenue from a profitable industry, to fund an invariably unprofitable but popular project. It has been justified as putting ‘right a bad deal’ on the excesses of profits of unpopular industries. Between 1997 and 1998, Gordon Brown raised £5 billion from privatised utility companies to fund the Welfare-to-Work Programme.Today we have face another well-intentioned policy initiative, of ensuring every NHS patient is guaranteed a cancer test within 7 days, supposedly to be funded by a windfall tax on tobacco companies. Labour’s incoherent economic policy is enough to challenge whether this plan is even sustainable for anything but a short period of time. But the wider concept of a windfall tax is more political gimmickry than sound sustainable policy.

117. Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke kicks some liberal butt at NRA convention - Allen B. West -...
Wisconsin Sheriff David Clarke will surely have a target on his back now after his superb comments at the annual NRA convention in Indianapolis. As reported by The Blaze, Clarke revealed the seven words he would add to the Second Amendment: “Keep your hands off our guns, dammit.” What Sheriff Clarke again demonstrates is for conservatives it’s nothing to do with race — it’s all about individual character.

120. Statism is turning America into Detroit - Ayn Rand's Starnesville come to life –...
Look at this description of Detroit from today’s Observer:What isn’t dumped is stolen. Factories and homes have largely been stripped of anything of value, so thieves now target cars’ catalytic converters. Illiteracy runs at around 47%; half the adults in some areas are unemployed. In many neighbourhoods, the only sign of activity is a slow trudge to the liquor store. Now have a look at the uncannily prophetic description of Starnesville, a Mid-Western town in Ayn Rand’s dystopian novel, Atlas Shrugged. Starnesville had been home to the great Twentieth Century Motor Company, but declined as a result of socialism

122. Anyone for the John Redwood manifesto? | Tory MPs | ConservativeHome
It is by far the best blog written by any Tory MP. Each day - without fail - John Redwood offers a thoughtful reflection on a policy or strategic issue of the day. I suspect many ConHome readers are already regular readers but here is my selection of the former Welsh Secretary's wisdom as blogged by him in the last couple of months. My guess is that many Tory Party members wish that wisdom was more regularly embraced by those leading our party...

Labour is raking in hundreds of thousands of pounds in commission from ambulance-chasing lawyers who force up the cost of car insurance. The party’s coffers are swollen by ‘£250 plus VAT’ every time it refers a supporter who is seeking accident compensation to a friendly firm of solicitors.Officials have also received more than £350,000 in direct donations from controversial personal injury lawyers who pursue ‘no win, no fee claims’, the Mail can reveal.

124. Brighton has become an object lesson in why it is a disaster to vote Green » The Spectator
I have just moved back to Brighton, and I am happy to report that it remains as shambolic as ever. The estate agent said before opening the door to a prospective flat, ‘I’m obliged by law to tell you that the previous tenant was an alcoholic and died here.’ I replied, ‘I am not surprised and that is not a problem.’ No one who knows Brighton expects puritanism.Unfortunately, we have grown to expect dreadful politics. Since 2010, both the MP and the council have gone Green, turning the town into a laboratory for their kooky ideas.

126. Wind farms: even worse than we thought - Telegraph Blogs
The Global Warming Policy Foundation has produced yet another devastating report: this time on the economics of wind farms. Turns out they're even worse than we thought. Not only do the Bat Chomping Eco-Crucifixes (TM) ruin views, kill birds, cause bats to implode, destroy the British film industry, frighten horses, enrich rent-seeking toffs like David Cameron's father-in-law Sir Reginald Sheffield Bt, drive up electricity bills, kill jobs, create fuel poverty, cause old people to die of hypothermia, wipe out property values, drive people mad with strobing and noise pollution and enable smug liberal idiots to spout rubbish like "Oh, I don't mind them. Actually I think they're rather beautiful", but also by 2020 they're set to drive up consumer bills in the UK alone by £120 billion.

127. Sir Patrick Moore, proud patriot, would never have got a job in the modern BBC – Telegraph...
The highest possible compliment you could pay Sir Patrick Moore, who has died full of years and honour, is that he would have never got a job as a science presenter with the modern BBC.First, he was too talented – a veritable renaissance man. Sir Patrick was a handy spin bowler, a talented composer and a virtuoso xylophonist who played a version of "Anarchy in the UK" in front of the Queen at a Royal Variety Performance as well as once duetting with Albert Einstein on the piano.Second, he knew too much about science – real science: in his case astronomy, which he had studied with the obsession of an autodidact, as opposed to the faux science of global warming which is the obsession of all modern TV scientists.

128. Labour tramples on a young activist who wouldn't follow their script Left Watch
"Thursday 5th May 2011 was the proudest day of my life. I had just got elected as a Councillor for Wavertree Ward on Liverpool City Council. I was the youngest ever councillor in Liverpool, and beat Lib Dem Lord Storey who had served for 38 years. You called me on the Friday afternoon - to my absolute surprise - to congratulate me on my election win."So begins a heartfelt letter from Cllr Jake Morrison to Ed Miliband. Until this week, Cllr Morrison was a proud and enthusastic Labour activist - particularly since he received the personal call from his party leader he mentions above. But no longer. Jake Morrison has been suspended by Labour pending an investigation. The reason? He claims it's because he fell out with his local MP, much-touted rising star Luciana Berger. If so, this is a remarkably grubby tale of petty vendettas within the Labour Party.
