1. Who governs England?
Assuming Scotland votes to stay in our union this September, we will find devolution back on the agenda soon afterwards. All three main parties have promised more powers for Scotland. All three will I am sure wish to honour that pledge. This time it will not be possible to duck the issue of who governs England? It will be too unfair for Westminster to carry on as if nothing had happened with respect to the government of England, whilst the rest of the UK led by Scotland gets yet more powers for self government in their own Parliament and Assemblies. The SNP agrees with me about this. The SNP does not think their MPs at Westminster should settle matters for England that are settled for Scotland in the Scottish parliament.

England is not a cash cow for the benefit of Scotland, Wales and Northern Ireland. England is a proud and historic country!

8. The Bank of England has just crossed the line into straight government financing –...
So now we know why the Bank of England's Monetary Policy Committee called a halt to more Quantitative Easing this week – it's because the Chancellor and the Governor of the Bank of England have concocted a backdoor way of doing the same thing. The latest little (actually quite big at a tidy £35bn) money printing wheeze comes about as close to outright monetising of government spending as it is possible for the Bank of England to go without simply creating the money and handing it by the lorry load to the Treasury, a la Weimar. What the Treasury has decided to do is take the accumulated interest payments on the stock of government debt the Bank of England has bought under quantitative easing, and credit it to the Government's books rather than the Bank of England's. The total is £35bn, of which the government intends to take £11bn this financial year and £24bn next.

10. The future of Scotland
Today we debate the Scotland Bill. Both Labour and Conservative front benches support the Union and believe granting more powers of self government to Scotland and its Parliament is the way to preserve the Union. The SNP see the opportunity to demand more powers for the time being, whilst seeking to use the devolved Parliament as a platform and stepping stone for full independence.

11. Boris Johnson speech's extraordinary attack on the 'quitters, the splitters, the kippers' |...
The London Mayor addresses a rally of Conservative activists tonight, before his official speech to the conference faithful in Birmingham tomorrow.Mr Johnson vowed to take on the 'quitters, the splitters, the kippers' who are trying to undermine the Tory party. And he mocked defectors with an extraordinary sex joke. He told delighted Tory activists:'The EU commission wants to ban vacuum cleaners on the grounds that they are too powerful.‘If you do not handle your vacuum cleaner correctly, you may end up inhaling the hamster – the budgerigar through the bars of the cage.‘And I have read that there are some people – probably the type who are thinking of defecting to UKIP – who present themselves at A&E with barely credible injuries sustained through vacuum cleaner abuse.’The outspoken remark is likely to infuriate UKIP supporters, and will draw comparisons to when defence minister Anna Soubry said of Mr Farage: 'I always think he looks like somebody has put their finger up his bottom and he really rather likes it.'

12. State debt and the Bank of England
Today I want to concentrate on the narrower definition of the nation’s debts – the £1300 billion of official borrowing in the name of the nation that gets measured in the international comparisons, some 80% of GDP. This excludes the public sector pension deficits, the semi nationalised bank liabilities and the private finance guarantees.

15. Ed Miliband Useful As A 'Boil On The Scrotum,' Says Radio Caller
Ed Miliband is due to spend from now until polling day campaigning on behalf of Better Together to persuade Scots to reject independence. However one caller to BBC Radio 2, Dale from Pontypridd in Wales, was not too impressed with the Labour leader's efforts so far.He told Jeremy Vine: "It's no good the leaders rushing north, they are just going to push the Yes vote over the line. The Scots see Miliband as watered down whisky. During this coalition he has been as much use to traditional Labour voters as a boil on the scrotum, he has been absolutely pathetic."
